Ten Songs Liner Notes

Ten Songs… and change.
Someone a lot wiser than me once said, “Of one thing you can be certain,
everything will change.”
I put my guitar down in 2005 to concentrate on what I thought I only needed to
do- make money in order to take care of my family through acting… By 2010, my
wife and kids convened an intervention alerting me to the fact that I was not the
greatest bloke to be around, the acting biz was getting tough, and with threats of
strike and such and we were not making ends meet. Clearly the execution of my
thought wasn’t working the way I had intended.
In the summer of 2010 I made a statement to my wife- “I’m getting back into my
music”. Not five minutes after that moment, I received a Facebook message from
an unknown woman inquiring when I was getting back into my music and who
offered me assistance. I followed her up. A year later, with renewed passion, I’ve
done a bunch of shows and you now have this CD of new songs.
We recorded these tunes live in a music cafe in North Hollywood, California…
old school, standing around a circle of mics. Additional overdubs were performed
by friends wanting to contribute their collective talent, spirit and love to the
project from their respective locations.
I have spent a lot of time in my head… plotting, wondering and scheming. With
all that energy and time spent, I didn’t get very far. My life has only ever taken
off when I am living present, in my heart. This collection of songs is of my heart.
They are of my journey, of dreams lost, found and realized. Of my children, dear
friends and family. Of betrayal, hope, self-sabotage, gratitude and most of all,
love.
Sincere thanks…
Cheryl Dubuque, the Facebook angel, who orchestrated my move back to musical
performance and the making this album. To John DeCarli for sponsoring this
album and encouraging me to deliver “only what makes me happy”. To my
persistent buddy, music mentor and co-producer John O’Kennedy for the
reminder. Scotty Lund my beatman since 2000, mixer and co-producer. To my
guides of truth, spirit and love Susan Grace and Doreen Rivera.
To my wonderful friends and family that have stayed with and nurtured me and
to my co-writers and musician mates that play with me- my heartfelt thanks to
you all.
I dedicate this album to my wife, who for 20 years has been the best example of
pure love, support and kindness I know. Thank you Ali for continuing to choose
to walk with me. You indeed have shown me the way to love, to grow and to …
change.PlayersJohn O’Kennedy- electric & acoustic guitars, mandolin, slide & baritone guitar
